From the title it would seem this is a software issue and it may be but I thought it was hardware. I was recently given an old P3 box minus a hard drive. Its a packard bell (may help). I am not sure about the model of the p3 but its got a speed of 1000mhz and 128 mb of pc133 SDRAM.

When trying to install any flavour of linux the box restarts after a certain point is reached. When the files start to get loaded to begin the installation the screen goes black and then it restarts. I have tried with two different hard drive and different RAM configurations.


Any ideas. It is pretty old and dusty. Could that be the prob?
