I got this new video card from my parents so I could play World of Warcraft since my other one didn't cut it. It's a GeForce4 with 64megs AGP 4x. Now for some reason since I put it in my monitor will go black like as if its getting screen reslution changes like when you first go into most games. I get this all the time like when I first log in to windows and randomly doing things. I also get tons of bluescreen hardware failing messages often saying paged in non page area or irc not equal some crap like that.

It seems to me this is pretty obvious I need to get a new video card but if any of you guys have had simlar problems and theres a way to fix this please tell me. Anything to save a couple of bucks :p

Does your motherboard support your video card? That would be where I look.

You could also uninstall and then reinstall the drivers for the card or get the newest drivers from the web

I've had the newest drivers and the ones that came with card installed didn't change anything at all. And I have a fairly new Syntax mother board that can support ddr ram and 2.8+ AMD processor so I'am pretty sure that it can handle a Geforce4.

What speed is the AGP slot. Have you tried the card in a different PC and have you tried another card in this PC?

What chipset does your mobo have? That would help us a lot.

Also, have you checked your BIOS version lately? That could affect things, although I don't know how much in this case.

Another thing: how did you uninstall your other vid drivers? If this was done improperly or not at all, that could very well cause a lot of headaches!

And how much did you pay for that old vid card? If it does end up being faulty, maybe you should exchange it for something with more bang for your buck! That thing has got to be either a cheap GF4 MX series or an old GF4 Ti 4200.

Well it was my step dads old one so I got it for free. He said it works fine. I unistalled the other drivers from the old vid card and unstalled the device. Not sure what bios has anything about it there seems to be very little infomation on my mother board. Not sure where I'd find stuff about my chipset. The AGP slot is 4x.

You can either tell us everything that is printed on the mobo, or run a utility like Everest to get info about your hardware. Everest will at the very least tell you what family of chipset you have.

I'm starting to wonder now if it could be a power issue. Perhaps your PSU just isn't up to the task of running your new vid card at full steam.

Well I restarted while I unplugged my burner my other cdrom and my floppy not sure if that would boost up power enough and everytime I would get to everest site 3 times, I got a bad_pool error or somthing so I just took out that vid card and put in my old one (32megs Nvdia tnt riva). No problems at all nothing. Both my cards use the same Nvdia drivers so its pretty easy to swap one from the other. My powersupply is a 400w. I'am running a 900mhz processor (yes I know >.< ) I got a 384 of sdram. One old ass cdrom, 48x burner, 2hds two fans both have little lights on em, only things CompUsa sells for 6.99

Everest:
CPU Type AMD Athlon, 900 MHz (9 x 100)
Motherboard Name Syntax SV266A (5 PCI, 1 AGP, 2 SDR DIMM, 2 DDR DIMM, Audio)
Motherboard Chipset VIA VT8366A Apollo KT266A
System Memory 384 MB (SDRAM)
BIOS Type Award (03/26/03)

Hmmm... this sounds odd. I wonder if a fresh install with the new vid card would work?...

Regarding the swap, you still might have to reinstall the NVidia drivers when you swap the vid cards. Even though they use the same driver version, reinstalling forces Windows to recognize the change. Just a thought...

I think maybe somthing with the memory on the video card could be messed up beacuse well my step dad sint the smartest one in the world and when I play WoW I get tons of access violation errors 0x00000 crap like that so is it safe to say the video card is screwed? I'am gonna try to bring it to his house and try it on his computer when I get a chance.

access violation errors 0x00000Yep, that would suggest faulty or overheating vid card RAM. Try it in another computer, but after that you may have to see if it's still under warranty. I've had a few vid cards die on me in my day (one of them to abuse but not by me).
