I have win98 ME as OS, P111 866 MHz with 396MB RAM. Removable HD option(I have 4 different HDs on drive trays) Modem is Haynes 56k V92. Two of my HD have no problems to get internet connections, but other two have problems. All 4 formated and installed software on different occassions. Modem is on Com 3 with IRQ 11, Com1 on IRQ 3, Com2 on IRQ 4, IDE controller card (ATA133) on IRQ 11 also. When I removed this controller card Modem goes on IRQ 9. Modem status shows 'connecting, checking user name and password' then same time shows 'disconnecting'. What did I do wrong here. Sys is not allowing me to change IRQ for modem from modem properties. Any suggestions????? Thanks

If you're not using either(or both) of your serial(COM) ports, then disable one(or both) in BIOS. Then assign the modem to the IRQ for the one that's been disabled.
If you cannot assign the modem to either IRQ 3 or 4, then insert the modem in a different slot and try again.

Other day I was figuring out from BIOS to disable COM1, and COM2, looks like I need to open my book on BIOS to find out, mind you, I am still learning about these parts in sys. If I move modem to another slot, will it effect my other two HDs where modem work to access online? I will try still that is how I will learn, is not it?

I did figured it out to disable COM1 AND COM2 from BIOS. Before I go further let me quote actual error message "Dialup Networking was unable to complete connection - error-691 : The computer you are dialing into can not establish a dialing Networking connection. Check you password and then try again". Do you think it has to with IRQs or my password? Same password I enter for other two HDs and I get thru. By the way now my modem is on com3 with IRQ 07 after I move around the card into different PCI slots.
