while using old faithful the other day, it died with a brief puff of ozone, no power, no fan ....replaced the 250 atx power supply thinking that was the problem, but no go, any ideas from the super powers??

Did you check to see if the surge arrestor is bad by connecting the computer directly to the wall outlet?
If that's ok, then it's possible that the PSM failure took some of the other hardware components with it. The only way to check them is to either swap out or have them tested.

Hey Russ:

If you have a multimeter - check the 12 Volts on the P1 connector

If you have good voltage - problem is likely(remember likely) to be resident on mother board.

If you are reading 0 volts at P1 connector - problem likely(see above) a drive - shut down uninstall all drives - if power back on P1 - shut down and add one drive at time

another approach would be to break down PC to CPU only Power up - if ok shut down, add memory, power up if ok, power down, install video power up if ok power down - you get the pic - Make sure to wait 30 secs before powering back up LOL

Good luck
