New motherboard installation..........new 10.2 gig h/d. Tried to boot computer with new xp software(purchased new) sytem stars and installation begins, system then at anytime crashes giving me stack dump messages and other errors.....retried many times but just crashes..
SO then i decided to try an installation of ME. Boot disk in system starts fine all cds present installation a complete success but then as soon as im in windows i discover that i now have no cds...so cant put motherboard driver disc in. Ive tried 95/98 and the same thing happens but the bios shows all cds present at start up. bios default settings made then optimized settings made,,,no difference. Put the cdrom in daisy with harddrive bios shows cd but windows doesnt.

answers...
Why no cds
Why cant install new wp system without crashes(m/b manufac says xp friendly..my ass)
Why do i allways build my own systems just to save me a few quid.

I would start by removing the second video card and dvd drive
Then check the jumpers on the cd.
The reason XP isn’t installing could be the same reason your other O/S isn’t find the cd drive

My first guess would be chip set drivers ( Via KT266B)
In the Win ME,98 setup.
You can get around this by installing the dos device drivers and mscdex for the cd to work,
Unfortunately this doesn’t help with XP

Then after you get a full install .
Reinstall the dvd and second video card
