View Full Version : No Power Up, Just built Intel D850EMV2

I just finished configuring a new computer with the Intel D850EMV2
motherboard and I can't get it to power up. I've been through a process of eliminating possible causes. Thinking it was the front panel power switch, I unplugged everything except the main power connection to the mobo and the fans. Then I tried jumping the power switch pins with a little screwdriver. It didn't work.

An LED on the mobo lights up when the power is on. Also, the processor heatsink fan kicks for a split second like it wants to start when I engage the main power switch on the back of the computer...but then nothing. No power up to anything...fans, drives, CPU. I'm using a brand new case (Antec mid tower) with a certified P4 400W 12V power supply. Could the motherboard be shorted somewhere?

Please any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Phil

Make sure the power supply module's main power connector is securely inserted into the motherboard, the PSM's selector switch is set to 115 volts(not 230 volts), try another wall outlet, bypass the surge arrestor, and use a different power cord into the PSM.
If no luck, have the PSM tested.

Hi Spin:

After following Ski's advice

When you say you unpugged everything did that include the drives also??

DO you have a multi meter - can you read any voltage on the P1 connector between one of the black wires and the yellow one - should read 11-15V??

DO you get a voltage reading with drives connected?? Without drives connected??

Thanks for the helpful ideas, but I managed to finally get it goin'. I took the motherboard completely back out again and sorta "bench tested" it. I removed the heatsink and the CPU and examined everything. Then I replaced it...plugged in the power and the fans while the board was out of the case. I spanned the power switch pins with a little screwdriver and presto...it zoomed to life. Maybe it was shorted, but it works fine now after reinstalling (for the third time).

Thanks again. This is a great group.
