It was a dark, rainy night. We were out at my cousin's house for dinner.
We come home to find the fridge with rain water around it, rain water leaking from my sister's entrance to her door, and rain water on a desk with a Dell desktop. I immediately shut it off and unplugged the power cable from the back. It was on and running XP as normal. I felt a few drops of water on the side of the case. My mother put a towel on the desk and a plastic bag over the 19" LCD. Do you think this is a goner? And would it be safe if I tried to turn it on in a few hours?

You have to open the case and see if water got inside. Let us know what you find and we will tell you how to proceed.

K, I'll open us the case tomorrow morning. I also felt for any water around the rear and near the CD drives and front bezel.
BTW, the CPU is under a desk, but water may have flown from the desk's gap connecting the other side of it and into the cpu.

Even if there's no damage, the humidity alone is enough reason to let it dry out for a couple days. I know it's inconvenient, but water damage is expensive to diagnose & fix! Don't take any chances!

Okay, I checked now because I thought the water could evaporate.
No water in there, thank God. The monitor remains an issue though.

I turned the PC on, everything is perfectly normal. No errors or anything. I'm shocked to see the monitor fully functioning as well. :D

It's good to know everything is ok. I was going to say, take that bag off the monitor to release the humidity...

Yeah. It really rained a lot that night, there was 1 inch of rain on the Long Island Expressway :eek: .
It's still raining, but not too hard anymore. First rain we've got in a few weeks.

How did the rain get in? Are you patching that up now? Did you know there were leaks beforehand?

We knew the roof had a few leaks here and there and we had it repaired several times, but it keeps happening. We didn't know it was leaking where the PC was unitl two nights ago.
