I just finished installing a Gigabyte GA-7VRX motherboard with a AMD 1800 CPU and when I shut down it goes to "IT IS NOW SAFE TO TURN OFF YOUR COMPUTER". When I hold power button it shuts down, but the num lock light stays on and when I hit a key the system restarts. It has windows 98 operating system.

Am I missing a setting in BIOS power management? Uses AMIBIOS.

It could be in the BIOS...look for something along the lines of "power button" behavior. Also look under Power Management (control Panel > Power Management > Advanced > Power Button > Shutdown) in Winodws....there is a button behavior setting there too.....they both should be set to "OFF".

Some of the newer computers have a power switch on the back of the machine as well as on the front. If mjc's solution doesnt work, try shutting down, then when the screen goes black, flick the switch.

I have set windows power management to shutdown, but still only goes to standby. I can turn completely off using power supply switch, but I have never had a problem with MSI or Tyan replacement boards.

Thank you for your help, I guess since the BIOS references soft off Power managment setup includes all the adjustable items of Green fuction features, I will need to use the power supply switch..

In your BIOS, under the power options, one of them should be "OFF"...that would allow the power button to turn off the machine, instead of putting it into some level of standby. Aslo look for options labled "wake on LAN", "wake on ring", "wake on keyboard" and if any of them are enabled disable them!

What is the AC back fun(c)tion?
What are it's other options?

When AC-power back to system the options are Soft-Off, Full-On or Memory (system returns to last state before AC-power off).
