You need to use a transfer paper. Any high quality ink jet will do.... Just remember you have to reverse the image or it will appear backwards when you attach it to the shirt.

Any printer should work, and you can buy t-shirt printer paper at any computer store these days. The thing with transfer paper is that it is a white-backed paper. So, even if portions of the paper aren't printed on, they still transfer white... So either cut it out to the exact shape, or use a white shirt. I remember making band t-shirts on an ink jet. It was a yellow logo, on a blue shirt... and when I was done it was GREEN! so, experiment. The best results I've had was using a silkscreening kit. It was messy, fun, and professional looking all at once.

The thing with transfer paper is that it is a white-backed paper.Exactly so! The "medium" used to transfer the ink/toner covers the transfer sheet completely and will itself transfer to the shirt.

That's why you will see the full 8½ X 11 rectangular images unless you cut closer to the image you actually want. However, be careful when cutting that you leave yourself enough selvage to be able to grab and lift the transfer from the shirt...it can be pretty sticky... ;)

Although you can apparently use any printer to make the transfers, I believe the laser printers which use toner will hold up better to washings...

Are you only interested in being able to do T-shirt transfers? Otherwise, what will be the main focus of your printing needs (e.g., black and white text, photos, etc.)?

If you're not talking about dozens of T-shirts you may want to consider doing the artwork layout and then saving to disk. Bring the disk to a local copy/print center and have them make the transfers using a laser color copy machine.

I think you'll find that you get a longer lasting image and the price to have a few images put onto the transfer will outweigh the price of a printer...

Why don't you pick up an AIO. Try the HP psc 2710, comes with 802.11g wireless. also supports photo catrridge to get high quality printout....or else try any of the photosmart printers by HP. They are made to print photos with great colour quality !!
