Can anyone please help me i have a major problem my computer was working fine until i installed Coolermaster Cooldrive DCD-4002 Hard Disk Cooler (SY-000-CM) from this website http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acata...oolers_18.html. when installing i was forcing the hard disk cooler in fairly hard thinking it was stuck but when taking a closer look i realised a chip (round cylinder sticking up??????) on the board was in the way and i had bent it so i pushed it back to its upright position. so then when everything was connected back up, i booted up into windows xp and everything was fine, then i booted into win98 and it froze on the win98 splash screen so then after that i tried booting up into winxp again and then it just froze before it got to the winxp loading screen, i have checked all the cables everything seems fine. so does anyone have any ideas to what i could do to see if i have done damage to the motherboard or anyhting i could try to get it working again, please please.

Round cylinder sticking up.... I take this to be one of the larger capacitors that are soldered to the Motherboard. Please inspect the base of it carefully to see if it is still soldered correctly in place.

Initially booted to XP fine. And then problems began. Where did you plug in this cooler for it's power source? May need a change here.

The ribbon cable plugged into the Hard Drive securely?

ok i think i have worked out that my motherboard is actually fine. i think the problem now is my hard disk, it seems to be working, i tried booting into win98se and after a couple of minutes watching the win98 splash screen i got the win98 start menu and it said at the bottom: warning: windows has detected a registry/configuration error.
choose, command prompt only, and run scanreg.
the following file is missing or corrupt: c:\windows\command\display.sys
there is a error in your config.sys file on line 1

the following file is missing or corrupt: c:\windows\command\country.sys
there is a error in your config.sys file on line 2

the file is missing or corrupt: c:\windows\himem.sys

the file is missing or corrupt: c:\windows\dblbuff.sys

the file is missing or corrupt: c:\windows\ifshlp.sys

and the whe the command prompt finnally loads it says above the prompt:
cannot find win.com, unable to continue loading windows

so i went to the command prompt typed scanreg and nothing happened and also there windows there but it wasnt a directory. after this i installed winxp on an empty partition and it is working but still takes ages to boot into it. also i tried booting into my old winxp and finally after waiting so long again got an error message saying something like missing or corrupt file:\windows\hal.dll.
i had this problem before but i formatted that partition before. do you think i should just format everything a start again and see what happens? oh yea also my hard drive makes lots of loading noises while im waiting, i have a ibm 40gb deskstar i understand there has been lots of problems with thes hard disks. so if any body understands what im talking about because i dont could they kindly help. thanks
