I'm running Win 98SE, 1 HDD, 3 primary partitions all Win98SE but some much lighter.
On one partition, my ZIP, previously appearing under "I", became "diskette station B", and the CD ROM ( "J") disappeared. I tried to refresh, uninstall the devices (primary and secondary IDE controllers marked as Yellow and the master as well, but then my PS locked...and when I rebooted, there they were again...), restored some previous cleaned registry items, all without any result...! Diskette B is accessible.
On one of the other primary partitions, everything is OK (ZIP under "I" and CD ROM under "J" !!)

Any thoughts ??

Thanx

How do you prevent each of the partitions from seeing the others and grabbing the wrong config files when booting?

check bewtween the working one and non-working one and see what the differences are in the config (both the OS and the device).

mjc,

I have Partition- and BootMagic: 2 out of 3 primary partitions (C http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gifare always hidden.
When I print and compare the devices list: both ZIP and CD ROM are not mentionned under disk drive info, the primary and secondary IDE controllers are disabled and the CD ROM is not seen under "system device info". But... the Zip is mentionned under Floppy drive B with the correct details. All the rest is identical
But as I said before I'm not succesful in uninstalling the devices...

Problem solved through a full re-install of windows ...!
Must have been some strange problem with the registry that I could not repair anymore with a registry restore ?
