View Full Version : Windows selects multiple items

There is an annoyance I have been having with my WinMe computer. Quite often, the computer will act as if I am holding the shift key when selecting items (ie. on the desktop or message headers in newsgroups). As a result, if I am not paying attention, I end up selecting multiple items. To "fix" this problem, I have to hold <ctrl> <alt> <shift> and click the mouse on any item.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it possible that your shift key is just sticking? Does typing text and changing uppr/lwr case always work as expected?

No, the shift key is not sticking, it does this no matter what keyboard I use (I have several). Also, I recently reinstalled windows and it was doing this before and after the reinstall.

First,
You must be talking about the Ctrl key. When you say reinstall, did you format first? If so try below. If not do it over with a format then install.
Just a suggestion: Try going in safe mode to your device manager and look how many keyboards listed there. If there's more than one take all but one out. If there's only one, take it out and reboot to let Windows reinstall it.

Only 1 keyboard listed, and the problem still exists. Thanks, though.

When you installed Windows did you include the accessibility features if you did there will be an icon in control panel named "Accessibility Options" if it is there open it on the keyboard tab un-tic "use stickyKeys" or better yet if you don't use or need these features goto add and remove programs, open it and click on the Windows settup tab, the first item on the list of Windows Components is "Accessibility" un-check the box and choose apply and Windows settup will remove the accessibility features. With StickyKeys enabled the Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and Windows keys when pressed will act as if you are holding them down until pressed again.
