Hi DRX,

You should hook up your keyboard. The computer looks for a keyboard during the post. If it's not there you get an error message. Being probably the most important peripheral, a computer constantly scans for a keyboard. If it can't find one you will get an error message.

And please make sure the computer is OFF whenever you connect or disconnect your keyboard.

Hope it helps. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

And please make sure the computer is OFF whenever you connect or disconnect your keyboard.

Can't emphasize that strongly enough. The reason being, PS/2 mouse and keyboard can and will fry their respective circuitry if plugged in or unplugged while the computer has power. When that happens it's time to go shopping for a new motherboard.

Some cases have a main power switch on back, look for one. Some don't have a main power switch, in that case you need to unplug the power cable from the wall. Either way, making sure the computer has NO power is very important when plugging in or unplugging PS/2 devices.

Good point Steve...

Are you sure you have a working keyboard?

Download the manual for it Here (http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M748LMRT.html) if you don't have one already. Check for a jumper to clear CMOS, then try it again. I suspect the keyboard is locked out in BIOS. You might try to get into BIOS before you see the error message, and see if you can reset the keyboard option there before clearing CMOS.

The manual should have info on clearing CMOS, and might have some BIOS instructions too.

DRX,

Is there a key lock on your computer? What I mean is, do you actually need a key to get it to boot?

While looking around for info I came across THIS (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/booterr.htm) link. Scroll the frame on the left down until you see "keyboard locked" and click on it.

Let us know if it helps. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

The bios don't have set to keyboard lock. The keyboard is normally not PS/2
I have manual and I reset CMOS more than once , I also remove CMOS battery from mainboard.
I disasemble mainboard from the case and it's alimented out , without front panel ( power led , hdd led , reset sw).
I have a card test plugged in PCI slot and POST it's halted at 85h - AMI bios.
I don't know where is the gate !

Hello DRX

Ever now and again I get this problem and I always manage to get past it but I've never figured out the cause or the solution.
I do have a key lock which connects to a set of jumpers on the motherboard and to eliminate that as a cause I fitted a jumper permanently in place so that the keyboard could never be locked out. The problem still occurs on infrequent occasions. I give the plug on the back a wiggle, or pull it out and push it back in or wiggle the wiring at the keyboard end, then press reset and it takes about two to four attempts before it gets past that point and completes the boot process. This could suggest poor connections but I'm unconvinced.
