Subject says it all. I just replaced my fan and it is loud again. And yes, I am sure it is the fan that is the problem. Just wondering if I put it in wrong? Have you ever heard of putting in a fan 90 degrees twisted?

First what fan is it CPU fan, chipset fan, Gpu fan, case fan, PSU fan?

A fan is square and the blade is round and spins so the answer is no you can't put in a fan 90 degrees twisted! If your fans are too loud get quieter fans like Vantec, Enermax, or Panaflo. If you are using one of those 7000 RPM Delta, YStech, or Sunon screemers they are very loud but it doesen't make them bad.

I can hear the YStech 7200 RPM fan on my Athlon CPU 10 feet away with an airconditioner and my P4 system with 8 fans between me and the Athlon system

The main problem with water cooling is to avoid condensation damaging the CPU or motherboard you need to use RTV silicone around the MB socket and CPU (http://www.swiftnets.com/socketsealing.htm)(pay close attention to steps 8&9). If you need to change the board or the CPU you have to change both and that can get very expensive. If I were to silicone my P4 CPU to the motherboard and the board went bad on me it would cost $332.00 for motherboard and processor instead of $142.00 for the motherboard alone.

Intel must have dropped their CPU prices again P4 2.0AGHz northwood under $200.00 Newegg has it for $190.00

I use a Danger Den water cooling system on my Soyo Dragon+ and XP 2000+ processor without problems. Condensation is only caused by trying to run below ambient temperatures. In this case you would be using Peltier's and other devices such as chillers, etc.

Dow Corning makes a nice condensation kit for around 32 bucks, however, I found that it wasn't needed. The *straight* water cooling system will remain above ambient.

Checked the Link above... those guys are doing -25C (-12F) and that is definately way below ambient. Takes a lot more that a water cooling set-up to get down there. Condensation problems for sure.

This is rather curious. I just noticed it tonight. It is a tower case and the fan makes a very loud noise (sounds like the lightsaber fight in Episode 1) and if I tip the box 45 degrees left or right the noise almost disappears. No, disappears is the wrong word, but you see what I mean. I think that the fan is a little loose and when gravity pulls at it from another direction it stops rubbing on whatever it rubs on.

Is there anything wrong with leaving my computer tower tiped over?

Sounds like your having the same type of problems that I am having with my PC. Even after changing EVERYTHING with the exception of a video card, HDs, and sound card I am still burning out the smaller fans on my PC. As for tilting your PC, not sure if that is such a good idea, might cause problems with any CD-rom drive that you are using etc.

jes, look for a cable that may get in the way when the case is upright.

There is one close, but not in the way. I think the fan has about a half millimeter of play between it and the center joint of the fan and when the fan is strait up and down the fan just wiggles into the wrong place but when the box is turned 45%, gravity won't let the fan go anywere and it doesn't make much noise.
Could I keep my computer tilted when I am not using my cd rom or floppy?

A better idea would be to RMA this fan, one with that much play is defective and probably won't last very long.

But, check your CD drive specs, some of them can be run with the drive mounted other than horizontally..

If you have trouble finding out if you can use your drive either horizontally or vertically one way to check is to look for either small clamps or inserts that would catch the CD if the driver were turned on its side.

i don't know if this will help but I once had a noisy fan not long ago i couldn't figure it out until i removed it from the cpu and blew on it..it was sticking, so i loosened on of the screws a little and it stopped the noise...seemed that the heatsink was slightly off centre and the fan was getting snagged
