Soyo Super 7 5EHM
AMD k6-2+ 450
64 EDO
Diamond Viper V550 AGP 16MB
15 GIG Seagate
52X Cdrom
200 Watt AT PSU

Just picked up this motherboard and card the other day on a trade. Have it set up with a dual boot of 98 SE and XP PRO..the Windows on both work fine but heres the deal. If i reboot with any OS or if I enter the bios and save changes..not everytime, but 80% of the time instead of the screen flicker and starting the post, it just sits there with a blank screen..and the hardrive led will stay on about 2 seconds and then thats all..if ya hit the power button it takes right off. While in Windows its fine..games work ok..no frezzes no errors.....its within the card or motherboard..it done this from from the start after putting it together..I double checked the motherboard in the case its fine..all the cards are seated well..i reseated them to make sure..i have a fan on the Viper and the AMD, they seem to be ok..doesnt seem to be heat issue..i checked the battery..its ok..what gives? has me stuck.

I'm having the same problem exactly. The only thing I can see that our systems have in common is a Soyo mobo, although I'm using a different model. One note, the problem seems to be lessened when I clock my processor down to 1100MHz. Anyways, please let me know if you get a response because this problem has been plaguing me for awhile.

Specs:
Tbird 1.3GHz clocked at 1.2GHz
Xtasy GeForce4 4200
512MB PC2100 RAM
3Com 3c905
Soundblaster Live!
Creative 12/10/32 CD Burner
Yamaha IDE DVD Drive
Seagate 20GB IDE drive
Maxtor 5400RPM 80GB

Could it possibly be a PSU problem? I seem to be running a lot of things on, what I believe is a 240W PSU. I notice the original poster only has a 200W PSU. In both cases they sound underpowered.

I was thinking along those lines as well so i ordered a new 300 watt ATX and installed that..which did help alot..it now seems to do it more if i restart while in 98..and very rarly now when i restart while in XP..and almost every time while i exit and save changes while in the bios. Interesting though we both have Soyo's..i would have bet it was this Viper card. I can live with it myself but i had planned on selling this soon and it makes it a hard sell..lol.:D

Randy,

The 64Meg of RAM seems a bit on the shallow side...

128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features) Direct from M$! 24 & 32 recommended for 98se...which would be OK.

Was the XP Pro an upgrade or a clean install? You might want to check out iisbob's comments (http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=15106) in the linked thread in this regard.

Do you have the latest BIOS upgrade...could be some issues with XP.

What about MB driver updates, current?
