You mean the removable mobo tray? Or the stand-offs?

Stand-offs have to be there either way. Can't really avoid them. Stand-offs are the little metal thingies that you screw into the mobo tray (whether it's removable or not) then you put the mobo on top of them, then you put screws into them through the holes in the mobo. That's the best description I can write right now. :p

Properly mounted with standard "stuff", your mobo itself will not be a source of noise. If it is, you've got a major problem and you'll likely soon see sparks, hear popping noises, and smell smoke.

The stand offs generally come with the case. You could probably also buy them at a computer shop with a hardware/builder's section. The mobo tray will alsocome with the case, if the case has that feature. Otherwise, you would have to mod the thing in some way.

well i know that, but if there is a tray their might be vibrations. i am running a vid card with a fan, plus it will be mounted to case which has fans. man, you guys r so picky

Yes we are. Speaking of picky, what the heck is wrong with capitalization and good grammar?

Sigh...Sorry, that "technique" of saving a few keystrokes just irritates the feces out of me.

man, you guys r so pickyHmmm... perhaps so. But we're just trying to answer your questions as best as we can. And there's more than one way to look at something.

For instance, a good case won't have any noticeable vibrational noise from a removable mobo tray, because it will be properly secured. Also, a vid card is not only connected to the mobo, but also the case, so again a good case will properly secure any expansion cards. And as for case fans, I don't recall those ever being mounted to the mobo, so I'm not sure where that argument comes from. But again, a good case won't have any noticable vibrational noise from case fans.

The topic of cases is varied, to say the least. There are tons of cases out there, in all shapes, for many purposes. You seem to have a very limited amount of case experience. If you had, you would realize that these questions of yours are not cut-and-dried. If you can imagine a certain case configuration, at least one of us has probably seen it!

Removable mobo trays come with cases. If you're looking to buy one for your current case and your current case didn't come with one, then you'd have to mod your own. The difficulty in making your own is that you have to make sure that your mobo's IO ports line up with the IO shield of the case, and that the expansion cards line up with their slots. I haven't seen any "mod your own mobo tray" articles anywhere, but I'm sure a quick Google search will bring them up!

If you really want to impress, forget the case and all that other crap. Get really "modding" creative and do this:

Or even this. Leggos are natural insulators. And you don't even have to go to a hardware or PC store! :D :

The only way to buy a removable motherboard tray is to buy a case that has one. If you do find and buy a case with a slide out tray, the tray can only be used in that case because the I/O shield and the expansion back plane are attached to the tray. These cases may be more noisy if not well built because the rear fan is attached to the tray and may cause the tray to vibrate if the tray isn't securely fastened to the case.

If you get one with a drop in tray it will misalign the I/O ports and expansion slots in a case that was not built for the use of a tray.

Here are some cases with a removable motherboard tray. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?submit=PROPERTY&SubCategory=7&bop=and&description=motherboard+tray)

agentLX,

No. I would be real proud if it was! I stumbled on those pics in some links when I was researching before my first (and only so far) build. Pretty cool, don't you think? Well..different anyway. :p

very cool =P ! what if i try wood for myself =) ! cheap, good, easy to build (.... if you have the tools), also no PC store necessary, u can make custom-built design, even a motherboard tray (.......so we dont have problem getting one). and also gud insulator to heat, no electrical ground on the body either.

wht u think =P !

agentLX, do a Google search for pc wooden case mod and you will see some interesting stuff. I always liked the Cigar Humidor case (http://images10.newegg.com/UploadFilesForNewegg/humidor_description.html) that you can read about on Newegg's site.
