Hey everyone,
I am getting a BIOS ROM checksum error detecting floppy drive A media, insert system disk.
This originally was happening intermittently, and upon several reboots, I would get into Windows XP.
Now, no matter how many restarts, it will not let me into Windows.
I have a Compaq 6200 with an AMD processor and Windows XP.
I have tried resetting the cmos with no luck.
I was going to reflash my BIOS but the files from compaq are only a Windows based BIOS flash program and I cannot find a dos based flash file.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you changed the CMOS battery? If not, then try that first, as flashing the BIOS can result in an expensive paperwieght!

Tried replacing the cmos battery, no luck. Trying to use a bootable floppy to get to dos and verify hard drive is operational.

See here for links to HDD utilities. You can use them to test your drive with a bootable floppy or CD.

I'm assuming your BIOS code is corrupted [who knows why] and now your BIOS won't boot from either the HDD [or the FDD?], and you cannot succeed in flashing your BIOS to restore good code.
See http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/comp/mbsys/bios_FlashDead.htm and click on "I flashed my BIOS and now the system is dead!" [I know, you haven't flashed your BIOS] and read at:
"Some newer PCs come with a boot block feature that enables them to recover from a corrupted BIOS situation. If the BIOS code is whacked, a tiny built-in program will look on the floppy drive for the appropriate files to reload the BIOS. You should contact the manufacturer for instructions.

The bios of your motherboard is corrupted bluewolverine96.
Perform the following procedures.
a) format to a disk and copy it to the program and the file awdflash. bin corresponding to the make and model of your motherboard;
B) copies itself to floppy autoexec.bat and config.sys files;
c) edit.com through the program, edit the autoexec.bat file erasing all the lines;
d) then put the following line into it:
awdflash nome_do_arquivo.xxx / py / cp / cd / sn / R, (where "is the name of nome_do_arquivo.xxx
file that contains your BIOS. For example, 5é1da1.bin, ds122d3.rom, etc. ....)
e) edit the file aconfig.sys erasing all lines. He will get 0 (zero) bytes;
f) restarts the computer with the option to boot from the floppy.
After a few seconds, the motherboard, through the post will make some beeps, will run the program flash and copy the file xxxxxxx.bin to the BIOS. When the machine restarts automatically remove the floppy drive, go to SETUP and reconfigure.
