While attempting to install windows 2000, either as a clean install or installing over Windows 98 SE, the keyboard becomes inoperative at the critical point where you key "enter" to continue installation.

I have a USB keyboard and mouse, driving a P4S5A motherboard. The PS/2 connections for the motherboard are not operational so I cannot try a standard keyboard!!

Any suggestions are appreciated :

Make sure that 'Legacy Support' is enabled for USB in BIOS.

I do not have "Legacy Support" on my Bios. However your suggestion had me look at the USB options in my BIOS. I have two settings, "USB Function" and "USB function for DOS". I had both enabled throughout my installation attempts.

I disabled the "USB function for DOS" and W2000 loaded over my W98SE with no problems-----whatever the interactions were I have no idea.

Thanks for your input.

You're welcome.

'USB function for DOS' is the same as 'Legacy USB' which allows a USB KB to work in a DOS environment. However, since Windows 2000 does not use DOS as an underlying O/S(forgot about that) like Windows 98, then that option evidently is not required.

Anyway, glad that you were able to fix the problem, and thanks for posting back with the solution.
