Was doing dual displays fine with my CRTs. Connect my new ViewSonic VA712b guys and dual display option is no longer there in the Display Properties. I know it's connected properly because I have seen the 2nd one react as I went thru the process to get the main new flat panel to work.

Win 2000 [freshly updated; no Hardware updates offered]
NVida GeForce MXMX400 [driver freshly replaced]

I note that in the Display Properties it doesn't recognize the brand of the monitor. It just says default monitor.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Jaums

Have you installed the monitor drivers from the CD that came with your ViewSonic VA712b?

Yes. After doing that it does show the model number. Have also found that it will not boot with a FP connected to the digital port with a digital cable and no monitor connected to the analog port. It's like the BIOS won't recognize the digital port unless it has an analog adapter & monitor connected.

Jaums, are you experiencing this problem in the just the stripped down version of XP, or both installs? How far down do you have it stripped? I've got an ATI card that supports dual monitors, but I don't think it's fully featured with just the drivers installed. I thought the Hydravision application was needed to properly configure everything.

There are a couple services I disabled to reduce resource usage too. One of them had to be restarted for all the card features to work properly. I think it was ATI Smart, but it could have been the Hotkey Poller too. ATI doesn't recognize my Viewsonic by name either. Never caused a problem, but I suppose the potential is there if I were to select a setting the monitor couldn't support.

I don't have any suggestions on your analog vs digital issue. I'm still stuck with archaic CRTs :)
