I have an hp photosmart 1115 printer. It is not working with my homebuilt pc.
(asus mobo, pentium 4 2.26,516 pc 2100 ram).the printer used to work fine plugged into the usb port, it then started to screw up so i reinstalled it using the parallel port and cable, and it worked fine until just recently. Now the computer does not recognize nor does the hp software find the printer or it says it is not responding.happens with the usb and the parallel cable.strange thing is the printer works fine with my laptop, usb connection.I have tested the usb ports on the pc and they work fine with my digital camera and wireless keyboard and mouse, and my external dvd recorder.would like to know if anyone else has run into this problem.have checked the bios setup and all is as it should be.the only thing I haven't done is to try another printer to see if the computer recognizes it.appreciate any help.

Make sure you unplug the printer. Next, remove all traces of the printer. Uninstall it from the printer section of the control panel. Remove all traces of the software.

Re-install inthe exact sequence provided by the manufacturer. Some require you NOT attach the printer until the software is installed.

I have gone through all that, removing the printer, removing the software, unplugging the printer.reinstall software, turn on printer and plug into usb port.the hp software looks for the printer for about 8 minutes then comes up it cannot find the printer.same happens with the parallel cable.
on another deal, I have 2 hard drives on my system. One has win xp the other has redhat linux.the other day I booted into redhat, which I had not done in some time, and a window came up saying it could not find the hp photosmart 1115 printer. I found that rather interesting.can't blame windows.maybe the printer has a ghost in it.As I said in my first thread, I plan on attaching another printer to the system to see if it finds it.

well I'll be dipped in s_ _ t. I checked things in device manager and found a bogus printer driver with a yellow question mark. I uninstalled it and then rebooted and installed the hp software and now my printer works.

Next, remove all traces of the printer. Uninstall it from the printer section of the control panel. Remove all traces of the software.

That is usally the problems. A remnant from an unsuccessfull install gumming up the works.

Glad you worked it out.

first of all uninstall the HP s/w using the CD or d/w the "Scrubber" ( s/w cleanup utility ), from the HP website, the latest printer s/w comes with 4 level of uninstallation. Do that 1st then try to reinstall the s/w, also check for the USB Chipset on ur comp, update the chipset, it should work fine !!. Also try to delete the s/w entries from the registry before the reinstallation
