I have just put this pc together and everything works fine except the mouse just stops responding quite often. The mouse will freeze for about 10sec then reactivate, but if i press any key on the keyboard once it has stopped it will reactivate straight away...?

I have tried using 2 different wireless keyboard and mouse sets (a microsoft and a logitech wireless optical desktop). Tried installing the software and drivers still same prob. What could it be? :confused: Help!

Both the mouse and the keyboard use 16-bit drivers.
16-bit programs have peculiar features.
Whereas 32-bit programs each have their own dedicated message queues [as do simulated DOS machines];
16-bit programs all use a SHARED message queue.
This means that if any one program in the queue fails to terminate [perhaps because it has gone into an unending process loop], then it does not relinquish its hold on the CPU.
Hence it can sit there going round and round in this loop, and all the other program commands waiting to be dealt with must just sit and wait, sometimes without end.
What is needed to fix such a situation is to close down the offending program or get it to come out of the loop.

This suggests that the offending program is the keyboard driver, and that hitting a key is terminating the offending loop.

Could there be a fault with the keyboard hardware?
Could you try another keyboard known to be ok?
What happens if you run the PC without the keyboard connected; does the mouse still misbehave?
Take a look at the list of "16-Bit Modules Loaded" in "System Information".
See if the problem is still there in the "Safe Mode" environment.

Try microsoft antispyware and a bit defender software

Ive recently had the same problem im running a microsoft keyboard and a g5 laser mouse. Ive tried formatting and reinstalling windows. And I've moved the mouse off of a usb slot on the mobo to one on my flash card reader. any help is appreciated
