hello all,
im new to the world of networking. im going to be in charge of networking about 2 or 3 computers and a printer in an office setting. a linksys ethernet router is already setup and the 2 computers share the internet connection.
i want to add a printer to this network. what extra componets do i need to buy, if any? i can build pc's till the cows come home and troubleshoot them quite easily, but ive never ever gotten into networking. is there a site that i can read up on networking? if so please post a link for me. thanks!!

that's a small job that wont really require any hardcore reading. xp will practically do everything for you.

1) Plug each computer into its own port on the router, and rename them a useful name, and make sure they are all on the same workgroup
2) enable file sharing on each pc (google it if you need to)
3) install the printer on any single computer (or just use the one its already installe don)
4) go into that computer's printer control panel, right click on the printer, goto properties, goto "sharing" and share the printer out, give it a simple name
5) go to the other computers and access the other networked compturs by typing in //THECOMPUTERSNAME, all the shared items should come up including that shared printer. now, just click and drag the printer on the network to your printer folder on the computer you are sitting at. boom, it will ask you to install it and youre done!

now, you'll have to keep that computer on when you want to print, but thats no big deal for an office setting anyhow. you can get a print server, but my way is free and you can be done in 20 minutes.

Pretty basic, but since you're already using a Linksys:
