I can't print anything on my 3 in 1 from my computer. I uninstalled the scanner, but when I try to uninstall the printer I'm told that the C:\WINDOWS\DeIsL1.isu file cannot be found and that unistallation will not continue.
I just switched to a new computer and used the Xerox printer CD for install (which didn't seem to work in the first place). I was going to download a driver from the Xerox website according to their directions instead of Microsoft's driver, but I can't even uninstall. The 3 in 1 worked great on the old computer with the same platform. What do I do next?

I haven't had one of those for a while, but I seem to remember at one point I needed a firmware upgrade to do make the scanner, USB and XP all play well together.

Use your "Find" facility to search the C: drive for all isu files [*.isu].
On my PC none of these are held in the Windows folder.

1. Do you have a backup of your C: partition made when everything was working well? If you do, restore that to "jump back" to a working software arrangement.
If you don't...

2. Read the Xerox manual looking for ideas.
3. e.g. Will the printer print a test page without even being connected to a PC?
Do that if you can to check that the hardware will print ok [and it's therefore a software problem].
4. Uninstall all the Xerox software, then reinstall it.
What I usually do is make an image backup of the C: partition before installing software. Then if anything is amiss I restore that backup to TOTALLY eliminate all trace of the installation. Then I can make another attempt from the exact same software arrangement, but this time fore-warned and fore-armed and having learned some things.
NEVER be in the position of being forced to go only forward; always be able to reverse.
"Image" on the Emergency Boot CD [EBCD] will make image backups of your partitions.

This makes it easier to boot a chosen drive [particularly the one holding the EBCD].

2. How to make a free EBCD bootable CD

This has a number of useful utilities included including "Image" [for DOS, by Terabyte] & "File Manager".

What OS are you running? I had similar problems with the XK35c running XP and learned on another forum that it won't work well with XP. Now I'm having other issues with the XK50cx which is supposed to work with XP--see my post in this forum.

I haven't backed up anything, because the computer is less than a week old and I didn't have everything loaded yet that I wanted on it. The printer itself is fine and prints test pages. I downloaded the DeIsL1.isu file and tried to uninstall again. I made it further, but ran into a problem and got the report problem to Microsoft prompt, but it never completed the uninstallation. I tried again and was told the DeIsL1.isu file is missing again. I'm saving restoring hard drive as my last option. I just realized I haven't tried contacting Xerox yet, so that's my next move unless anyone has a better option.

"I haven't backed up anything, because the computer is less than a week old and I didn't have everything loaded yet that I wanted on it."
Really, the first thing you should do when you receive a new PC [after you check that it's working well] is make a backup of that uncorrupted, orderly software setup. Then you should make a backup before installing each new program; or else you could take a risk and only make a backup after completing the installation and configuration of all the programs [uh-oh cross your fingers and hope nothing goes wrong].

"I downloaded the DeIsL1.isu file"
Huh? I'm confused. Surely that customised file is made during the program installation on your PC. I'd expect that to hold a record of all the installations made on your PC so they can be reversed. Did you actually download a generic uninstallation file? Try installing then uninstalling.
I used to have "Clean Sweep" keep a record of all files installed and that was pretty good at keeping a record of all changes made during an installation, so it was more thorough at uninstallations, but an image backup is even better and less hassle. I consider image backups absolutely ESSENTIAL.

"I'm saving restoring hard drive as my last option."
A "repair Reinstallation" of Windows really only makes sure that all the files necessary for windows to work are present and correct.
If you don't have anything valuable installed yet you could consider a reformat and reinstall, but it would be wise before you do that to make a backup image and backup all your drivers [I can give you a link to 15 day trial of a suitable program].

"I haven't tried contacting Xerox yet, so that's my next move unless anyone has a better option"
Sounds like a smart move.

When I buy something new, I expect it to work. Am I surprised when it doesn't? No, and that goes double for computers. However, I don't have the time to spend all day backing up my computer. I'm sure your comments were well meant, but they sounded demeaning and belittling. I pulled the De*.isu file off of DriverGuide.com. I would like to know if there are better driver websites out there. It's not going yet, but I'm not out of ideas yet either. This is a learning process for me, and I appreciate your help.
