Even though a toner cartridge costs more than an ink cartridge, I was told that since a toner cartridge lasts so much longer than an inject cartridge, it is less expressive to print a page using a laser printer since the toner lasts much longer that an ink cartridge. So, not taking the price of the printers into consideration, is it less costly as far as consumables with a laser? I thought it was the other way around and page per page, it was more expensive with a laser printer. Of course, I've been wrong before. What are some thoughts on that? Thanks. ~Frank~

I've been using a Xerox Workcenter for years and it has never run out of toner. The printer sees pretty light duty, but I've run off batches of 100 flyers on a number of occasions. My inkjet seemed to constantly be running out, even though I wasn't printing much more. Every printer I get from here on out will be laser.

Unless you need color, Laser is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay cheaper than Inkjet.....

Now you are getting into the area I know best! :D
Laser is more expensive for the equipment on initial costs but it is way cheaper for the supplies, and the shelf life and the yield for the supplies is sooo much better than inkjet.

See my thread http://www.pcguide.com/vb/showthread.php?t=44611 if you have any doubts about laser being cheaper.

shelf lifeIs really key in that they are not a problem if left to sit. InJet, on the other hand, almost requires you print a page a day whether you need one printed or not...
I concur with pangea! My LaserJet 5 is an absolute workhorse...like Timex, it just keeps on ticking! :)

Thanks, I'm convinced. I'll use my laser for all of my black printing and my HP for color. Here's what I've got: I have an HP InkJet and a Konica Minolta laser that prints only black. The only reason I have the laser is because of a hobby of mine, I need to do the printing on a laser printer. I bought one at Staples for only $85.00. They said it had a limited supply of toner in it. I've had it about 6 weeks now and I'm still printing with it. So, now I have another question for you. I did a search on toner refill and found out that you can actually buy the toner and do your own refilling which will be less costly than buying a whole new toner cartridge. Han anyone had any luck refilling their toner cartridge?

It's not worth it. You don't want to breath the chemicals. Just buy the toner when you need it.

I haven't attempted to refill. However, you might want to price out refurbs...although, I'm not sure of what the savings are...

It's a personal choice if you want to refill, but I wouldn't attempt it in your house. Do it outside, and stand up-wind so the powder does'nt blow on you!

Inkjet printers use the PCL 3 language whhile the laser printer uses the PCL-5 language. So when the inkjet printer prints line by line the laser printer prints page by page and so is much quicker than the inkjet printer...One reason why i use the laser printer

Hello, I am printing out a presentation from an inkjet printer, but I only have laser printer film? Will I still be able to print onto it or will it turn out as a disaster? Also, I tried one page but the ink took forever drying, so I used a hairdryer but the ink just ran along the piece of 'laser printer film'. Can I print from inkjet printer onto laser printer film? And does anyone have any tips on drying the ink fast?

You should probably just go to your local office supply or large chain store and get the right kind of paper. It'll only be around $5 for a ream and will save you a fortune in headaches.
