I need suggestions for buying new printer.

The printer is for an average home pc which will do average (maybe 5-10 pages a week).

I had Hp630 before but its cartridge costs as much as a brand new printer.

So im looking for something that has a lower cartridge price or something that has a reputation for refills.

I would also like something that is good with picture printing.

Why don't you go for an All iN One, may be the HP oj7410 ot the HP psc 2710 which can even print wirelessly. they can also take in the photo colour catridges which will give you amazing clarity while printing photos on a Photo paper. If you totally into printing fotos i suggest you to go for the HP Photosmart series printers, they also use the greay catridge which gives out amazing print and colour quality

I'd check out Canons. Ink cartridges are inexpensive, and the printers themselves are often less expensive that comparable models from other manufacturers.

Check out THG's printer reviews (http://www.tomshardware.com/peripherals/). Canons almost always do well.

Why even bother printing photos on a home printer... when they will NEVER look any good compared to a professional printer, who will print them for half the cost (after you buy a printer, the ink, paper, etc...). I just use a Brother 1440 laser printer. It prints great, crisp text documents/webpages (in B&W) which is all I'm really printing anyways. It's going to be a few years before photo printing catches up to digital cameras...

Ummm, so that I can print a picture or two without making a trip to the "professional?"

Seriously, I seldom print the pictures that I take. That's the beauty of digital cameras - snap pix, preview them, and print good ones when you need/want hard copies of them (your kids for the desk at work; that great shot of your nephew when you babysat him to frame and give to your brother - whatever).

Being able to print a picture or two at home beats getting in your vehicle and making a trip to deliver, and another trip to pay and pick up. Or even if you do the kiosk thing where you get it in a few seconds, it's worth the degradation in quality (barely noticable) to do it without leaving home.

I have an Officejet 7130. It prints amazing photo quality and does everything else just as well. You will be surprised how often the copy function can be useful. However, it was expensive AND is expensive to operate. All inkjets are going to be expensive to operate, even if you refill yourself. There are hidden costs, and printer mfgrs. are getting more deceptive about these. You can save UPFRONT costs with a dedicated photo printer.

If you want low cost and easy maintenance, get a laser.
