ok, sorry to revive and old post, but i have the same problem and is freaking me out, i ¡ll try to explain a bit further what velvetrs69 didnt said, i know there is no hardware problem, because when im in bios, at least the keyboard works fine, the problem is when windows is loaded, sometimes it works sometimes dont, i have to keep rebooting 'til i get lucky and the keyboard works, the mouse is the same, so im using a usb mouse i have, but i dont what the problem is with the ps/2 ports, maybe its a virus, kaspersky doesnt detect any threat....i have no idea what to do, ill try your sugestions....but anyone have any other, or had the same problem and know how to fix it?

What exactly are you using a PS/2 keyboard and a USB mouse?

Does the mouse always work?

Have you tried the suggestion of using a Knoppix or other LiveCD?

It is still very probably to be a hardware problem...and if it is just the PS/2 ports acting up, then it would be a major motherboard problem.

We need full specs on you machine...make/model, etc.

im use both a ps/2 keyboard and mouse, but with this problem im using temporarily a usb mouse (a wacom, if its important), the mouse and keyboard works randomly, but only if at startup of windows they work, my computer is always on, and randomly the mouse/keyboard (it is always at the same time) they have like lag or something, but after a few seconds it works fine again (it doesnt happen a lot though) but eventually they just stop working(well the mouse dies, the keyboard still works, but with "lag" i press a key, and like 5-10 seconds later it displays) just like that, i have to connect mi usb mouse(wacom) so i can reboot, butafter reboot, its the same (until i get lucky and they work well, generally is the keyboard, the mouse need more reboots and more luck for it to work), but heres is what i dont understand, they always work in bios, but when windows loads, and i get to enter the password for my account, it is where they work or the dont

i still have to try the livecd (i dont have my knoppix right now)

i thought about a hw problem, but if it is that, why would it still work in bios? i just dont get it

my motherboard is an ECS RS482-M my processor is AMD Athlon 64, dont know wthat else you might need
