View Full Version : webcam driver problem
I lost my cd driver (comes wid the package) for my A4 tech pk-635 webcam. i know my cam works coz i've checked with my old pc that has the installed driver in it and it works wonderfully, i just dont have the original driver anymore for me to use the cam on my new pc. ive downloaded zip driver files from a4 tech website and other sites but it doesnt seem to work. Maybe if you guys have the same model as my cam to pls send the original driver that comes with the package. Its really a waste if a hrdware doesnt work just because its an old model and no available driver can be downloaded. thanks guys for reading my concern.

The drivers need to be installed when the camera is not connected. If you left it attached, it will not work.
To start from scratch:
1: Disconnect camera.
2: Go to Device Manager and 'remove' the camera if listed. Also the drivers for it if there.
3: Go to Add/Remove programs. Uninstall camera drivers if present.
4: Reboot, unzip driver package if not already done. Install drivers.
5: Attach camera.
If this doesn't work, let us know in a reply. And welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/vb/index.php!!
i followed your instructions mr. fruss tray ted and my a4 teck webcam didnt recognize the driver. i downloaded the zip files from a4 tech support (again) and same result as the first time. i ask for the support (a4 tech)to mail me the original driver but they didnt bother to answer my mail. i think its my last option to look for a person with the same pc cam model and borrow or copy his driver. the ones in the internet doesnt work. thanks for the advice mr ted and if u have anymore ideas i will be glad to listen.
PS: i deleted the zip files and software that I downloaded and windows recognizes it. its really the webcam that doesnt recognize the driver.

You could try installing it to another pc or laptop just to see if it is some matter with your computer. That would either support your theory and prove it or let us know it is with your pc and we could dig deeper afterwards.
im sure my computer is ok because i've installed the newer version of my cam (pk635M) which i borrowed from the computer shop and it did work. sad thing was, the driver only worked for that particular cam(pk-635M) coz i immediately connect mine(pk-635) and again, it was not recognize by my computer. thanks

If the older cam still works in your old pc, why don't we compare the drivers that are in the old pc to the ones downloaded from the web? This would confirm whether the old ones are in fact different than the ones from A4Tech.
I'm thinking because you installed a newer version, Windows is not allowing you to roll back drivers and this may be why this camera is not recognized in Windows. We may need to uninstall the newer drivers per method above and then go into registry and sweep it clean of orphaned files and no longer used devices/drivers etc.
What is the OS of the old computer and new? If one is 98 and the other XP, the drivers may not be interchangeable and again, I suggest trying to install the older drivers into another pc or laptop to see if it will work esp if OS'es are different.
sorry but im not that good in comparing files. i'll try it on tuesday coz the other comp is in the office and we r on a hoilday break. just an idea, can I copy the driver(cam) files from my old comp to a disc even though its already installed? i'll just install or copy it in my new comp. how can i pick each file out? sorry if my questions are not viable, coz im not much of a computer expert:) i only know simple stuff. i have other problem with my new comp(software issues) which im gonna resolve after my cam problem.thanks
the old pc has windows xp pro, same thing with my new home pc. i think the driver is the key problem here. dont let me explain coz i dnt know how but i know its the driver:) i also dnt know how to sweep my registry clean but i think we dnt nid to go there right now. maybe after this cam Problem) u can teach me how to move around my registry and pinpoint those unwanted entry. im very cautious coz my system might crash if i touch the registry. i dnt think there's unwanted driver in my devices coz its a new pc and i havent installed much drivers. the only thing i have plenty of is downloaded programs which eventually i keep on uninstaling after i know they r of no use or cnt use(coz i dnt know how) to me. im experimenting with mp4, divx, etc (all media files) to run under one player. ive downloaded codecs but cnt seem to import it to a player like wpm. there's always a player that comes with it.im in the tune up stage of my computer. just wanna share my story sorry for that. i'll just stick to my webcam problem coz i know i already used up your time already. thank you again

Where is your older pc? Home? If so, Go to Device Manager and open up where the camera is listed, click on Properties of it, drivers, and note the path where the drivers reside. Also what it is. Then go to where they are and copy them to put on floppy or memory stick, cd etc. This is what I want to compare to the drivers you downloaded. If they are different, we can try to see if manually entering them will work.
When you get back to the newer machine put them in the same location (folder) you found them. For example, my scanner stores it's drivers in the Windows>System32 folder.
Not sure if this will work but we can give it a shot.
I'm wondering if while you have the unrecognized camera attached, if there is an 'unknown device' listed in Device Manager.
my old pc, where my driver is, is in my office, the new one is the one im using at home. ok mr ted im gonna do just what u've instructed. thanks
i copied the path of my working pc and it didnt work. Although i got lucky and manage to find the original driver cd which i borrowed from a friend. its working now. thanks for the advice

Ok higs, here we go...
I guess that the most simple way to zip files is the following:
First you go to your Windos Explorer, select you CD ROM drive, and then select all its content. You can select the content by clicking in one file and then pressing CTRL+A.
After doing this, you may click the selected area with your mouse right-button and then search for some sort of "add to zip file" or so. I don't know which kind of zipping software you use, but almost all of them have this function with the mouse right button. Afterwardsm you just gotta follow the instructions, which also vary from software to software.
Anyway, if you need extra information, don't hesitate to post it here!!
Im using winrar and have finished my compression totalling to 400+mb. Problem now is I dont know how to send it to you since im using yahoo mail and its doent permit attachment more than 10mb. Is your cam pk-635?

UPLOAD
Well, that's too much for e-mail... yes, my cam is PK-635M...
We can arrange an upload, if that's ok to you... I'll set up an account for this purpose, and eventually let it available for other people having the same problem...
I'll post here briefly... thanks 'for the while'... lol
From my experience while looking for my pk-635 driver, pk635M is different from pk635. I've installed pk635M driver before but it didnt work for me. Its much easier to find the driver pk-635M coz its newer. Sorry but i've erased the 635m driver. I'll email you if i get hold of the 635M driver. if u still wanna get the pk-635 driver, just tell me where to upload 400+mb zip. thanks

Hehe,
It's like Manna from Heaven isn't it?
I once found an uncashed payroll check from about 3 months before... Talk about finding money you didn't remember having in a pair of pants that went through the washer! :p
