I bought a new video card - Radeon 9550, that I want to install. Currently I am using a NVIDIA card. I have never done this before so I think I am missing a step.

first I removed the existing NVidia driver, then I shut-down, swapped the cards over and rebooted only to have a flashing curser appear in the top left of the screen before the screen goes blank and stays that way.

The card is working (the fan on it is running), there is a signal going to the monitor because when I disconnect the monitor a loss of signal error appears. On startup the machine beeps three times ( which I understand means it cant read or see the video card). I am thinking its windows xp that can't see the card. Am I missing a step?:(

Does BIOS recognize it?

I have a totally blank screen with the card in so I can't tell if BIOS recognises it or not.

Try your other card again. See if you can pull windows up that way. If you can, install the driver for the Radeon card before you switch them.
