I just put together an Athlon Tbird 700-MHz. Using the Abit KA7 Motherboard with 64MB PC100, Quantum 10GB Hard Drive, 52x Samsung CD-Rom, ATI Expert 2000 32MB AGP Card.
My problem is at first the system would only go into the POST an stop after the memory check... After I did a BIOS upgrade I did a little adjust in the CMOS setup under the 'SoftMenu III Setup'.
I left the CPU speed at default, CPU Power at default etc. The only thing I changed was the 'CPU Pull Up Strength': 2 (default is 3)
'CPU Drive Strength':3 (default is 2)
Now the system goes through the POST and I was suceessful in loading windows, the only problem now is on ocassions the machine would stop at the Windows desktop and restart its' self and then go through a scandisk.
Can any one tell me what the problem is?

Really wierd. If running Windows98, try running "msconfig" (Start->Run->(type in "msconfig")) and you will see a variety of options. You will want to configure things so that you temporarily disable programs that get started when you boot. Its possible that some service/program is running that is causing this. Could also be a bad/naughty device driver. Msconfig can also help you step through that as well and disable some drivers. If you are using Windows95, you will need to do it the old fashioned way and go through the registry to disable somethings. If you need to do that, let me know, I can help you through that section.
