jangolion,

I'm guessing that you mean the icons that appear in what's called the System Tray, where the time shows?

If so, those icons are programs that are running. If you do CTRL+ALT+DEL, you'll see a list of what's running. Some or all of these programs may be starting up when you start your computer. If you don't want them to start up when you start your computer, you need to track down where the commands are that start them. The first place to look is the Start Up folder of the Start Menu.

If this is what you mean and you need more help, write back.

BTW, there is a Software forum that would have been a better place to post this message.

You might try removing them from the Start Up folder.

Go to:
Start\Settings\Taskbar and Start Menu and click the Start Menu Programs tab. Click the Advanced button. Then click the + beside Programs
Highlight Programs and click File in the menu bar at top. Click New Folder and name it Temporary
Then go to the Start Up folder and drag everything you don't want to run at start up into the Temporary folder you just created.

The reason I suggest doing it this way instead of simply deleting them is you can later go back and easily re-add them to the start up folder if you need to, rather than completely recreating the links to the programs again. Simply drag and drop them back into the Start Up folder.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

You are referring to the "Quick Launch" bar. This is NOT the list of running tasks and its NOT on the Start menu as you stated. To remove any of them, just right click your mouse on the icon and choose "Delete". To add something to it, just drag and drop an icon on the Quick Launch area. If you don't want the quick launch area, just right click your mouse anywhere on a blank spot of the task bar and choose "Toolbars" and uncheck the quick launch option.
