Hi all! I bought a dell inspiron 530, and it runs my games great. It's specs are as follows:
cpu: core 2 duo e4400
ram: 2GB dual channle memory
Video: 8600 gt
320 GB sata HDD

My problem is with speed step. I want to disable it as i think it is the couse of audio bugs in sanandreas and slight split second fps drops. The problem is there is no options in the bios to disable it. I updated my bios, but to no avail. I turned it off in windows, and the task manager shows it not changing but cpu-z shows it still changing, and I trust CPU-z more than task manager. Does anyone else have experience with this?

It's an OEM, dude. They don't put that stuff in the BIOS 'cause they don't want you messing with it! Essentially, you can't turn it off.

However, it shouldn't technically affect performance. I know it does  but it shouldn't. What games and what OS?

What type of computer is this? desktop? laptop?

Isn't SpeedStep a laptop power saving technology?

EIST is built into all Core-based CPU's by default. More performance per Watt and all that.

It is running vista and the game in particular is san andreas, it has minor audio bugs. And to clarify it is a desktop. Thanks to all who have replied!

Wow, that game runs in Vista? What do you have the audio settings at? Do you have a dedicated sound card or onboard audio?

onboard audio. Also, i noticed my evga 8600 gt runs at 63C at idle and over 80C at load!!1!!1:eek: Is that bad? I opened the case, and the fan is spinning but feels like it's not moving much air.

You might want to turn down the number of audio sources and/or reduce the in-game audio settings to 2D software. Onboard audio isn't gonna do much for gaming in Vista. Might as well let the OS handle it in the software stack.

Those temps are fine. You only need to start worrying if your GPU temp goes above 95-100C (since you have a mid-range vid card).
