I'm in the process of planning out a configuration for a new pc mainly for gaming..
So what will be the best choice in GPU's?
I'm stuck between conflicting advices about nVidia and ATI...
Which pathway is best?
and also I heard of many games rejecting to be even installed on XP platforms saying missing shader version 3..
Please enlighten me about this matter,,,
-----------------------------------------------
The configuration i'm thinking of is:
Pentium Core 2 Duo 2.66 Ghz
1GB DDr2 Ram
256 MB PCI-Express vga card
300 GB SATA2 HDD

NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GTX 640MB is the best right now- if you do not believe me, just
read this article on the ATI's card:

the best "bang for your buck" is the Geforce 8800 GT 512MB
i 100% agree with artp209 the 8800GT has way more bank for buck nearly as good as the GTX :(
heres some benchmarks and prices

then a 8800GT at $289.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121099) Vs a 8800GTS with 320 at $294.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130038)

i would still recommend just a few more weeks and then ATI introduce there new mid-range cards with DX10.1 support
if not i would 100% recommend a 8800GT and even SLI its still cheaper than a single 8800GTX 768Mb
ooo saphs redone his site :D good one i have just registered

RV630 is worth the wait, if only for early pre-release benchmarks. Gotta see what AMD can do against the 8800 GT!
George Hallam - Oh, you just now noticed our new content manager? :p Yeah, it's pretty cool. Still gotta do some major updates to the hardware sections, but it's a lot easier to do now.

It's not ATI anymore, remember? It's all under the AMD umbrella corp now. AMD's new releases are coming later this month. That includes vid cards previously known as ATI vid cards.

That two letters out of three, dude! :p Makes a difference, doesn't it? I mean, messing up two characters when you type 8800 GTX can turn it into 8600 GTS! ;)
It's important to be precise when you talk about computers. cd, ls, and tr all do very different things! :D

yes- but it is still under the ATI banner (when you go to AMD it has a section for ATI video cards and that includes all video cards manufactured)

They're keeping the ATI name around for now, much like HP did with Compaq. I think it has something to do with the terms of the merger, but that's just a guess. In any case, it is officially just AMD now. The ATI name will be "dying" soon enough.
