Hi. I'm new to the forum.

When starting some programs, e.g. Google Earth, my display color changes itself from 32 bit to 8 bit. This makes the program inoperable.

PC is pentium 4, !.7 ghz, 512 mb ram, 2 hdds, 98se on c: and xp on d:

New video card is nvidia fx5500 256mb agp with the latest driver installed from Nvidia site, using Driver Cleaner Pro.

I can make things work by changing my display setting back to 32 bit quickly before the program starts, but it would be nice to have things work properly.

I would appreciate any advice.

Are you running Google Earth on Win98SE or WinXP? Does the GE program itself try to change the color depth upon start-up? What resolution is your monitor/desktop set to?

I'm running GE on XP. Resolution is 1280x1024. I'm not sure that the program is changing the color, but as soon as I launch GE the screen goes black and then comes back at 8 bit color. When I exit, the screen once again goes black and then the color resets to 32 bit.

I haven't updated the processor to agp controller driver,
