Hello all ive got problem and im hoping one of you tech gurus can help. When i turn on the laptop it takes a very long time to boot up whith the cd rom closed,if i press eject or have the cd open it boots up fine any ideas and also it makes a chugging sort of sound as if its struggling if that makes any sense many thanks in advance.
We need a bit more info here
make, model, operating system..
But in the mean time
Check your bios and see if it has the CD drive listed as first in the boot order
If so make it second and make the hard drive first
The Chugging is probably the system attempting to access the empty cd-rom drive
If the Bios does not have the cd-rom drive listed as first boot device
Look at any/all other devices listed
Remove or de-select all but the HDD
If In the future you need to boot off the cd-rom
You will need to go into the bios and reset it to allow the cd-rom as a boot device

You could swap 2 and 3 (usually by using the + - keys or similar as outlined somewhere on the screen) Save the settings and Exit the setup. There should then be no attempt to read the CD-Drive at boot time since Hard Drive is now prioritized in front of the CD Drive.
It's not clear whether this happens both with and without a CD Disk in the drawer but if only with a CD Disk then it could be faulty or dirty.
