I have 70GB hard drive on my laptop which has only 7.89GB of space free - the small amount of free space is unbelievable b/c the entirety of my Documents & settings folder is 18.9 GB (in this folder is all of my documents & music & pictures). I don't store anything anywhere else on the hard drive.

Also, when I select all files an folders (including my Documents & Settings folder & hidden files/folders) in my C: drive folder the total size of the bunch is less than 28GB.

So if you subtract from my HD capacity (70GB) the 28GB on my C: drive & the ~8GB of free space, you get 34GB of space somehow being taken up on my HD???!!!

I have tried all the disk cleanup & emptying of temp folder, etc., methods & nothing has solved the mystery of why so much space is being taken up or what is taking it up.

Could someone please help or explain? I can't imagine what is taking up 34GB of space on my drive! I don't use any games or large programs or any major app's...could good old norton antivirus be the culprit?

Thanks,
Brendon

ExplorerXP (http://www.explorerxp.com/) might help you track down what is where.

KillDisk (http://www.killdisk.com/downloadfree.htm) loaded from a bootable floppy or CD will give a rather nice display of the partition[s] and any unallocated space on your internal HDD.

Make sure you only view; don't write zeros to the drive!

is it possible, that there is some wierd form of backup built into the pc, that automatically copies the whole HD into a separate hidden partion?
