Hello everyone,
I have xp home with 3 hard drives and dvd-cd rom installed.
hdd 0 on primary eide #1 has xp home installed
hdd 1 on primaey eide#2 has linux ubuntu installed
DVD-cd on secondary eide #1
hdd #2 on secondary eide #2 is storage only, no os.
all on cable select.
I have installed Smart boot manager correctly I think.
Problem is I start the pc with smb floppy inserted and get the selection dialogue box and from there to the ubuntu start. when enter is pressed I get the message,"Error 17. The selected partition can not be mounted."
Any idea what I am doing wrong?
If I select windows it works ok.
I can load the ubuntu ok by changing the boot order in bios
I have set the floppy to boot first.
Thanks guys.

Try including the swap option in the config for booting to the second hdd. I forget the setting (alt+key combo) offhand but you can find out from the various settings.

"Swapping" makes the non HDD-0 drive become effectively HDD-0 for that particular boot-up using int13 calls.

The Swap option is invoked by first selecting the relevant partition and then using CTRL+X to toggle the option for that partition.

Thanks Paul, CTRL+X did the trick.
X marks the spot hey.
