Boyfriend recieved a laptop with Win 2000 installed. His old laptop which runs slow has Win98. To the Win2000 laptop can I add an external USB drive using his old drive as an extra and still accesss data it contains?

I am looking to also do something similiar to my laptop. I want to use old drive as a spare on new laptop which I am installing new HD. Would like to access the data already on old drive which has/had win2000 already.

Thanks

As long as you have an available USB port (preferably USB2 - though that is unlikely on an older laptop) and a 2.5" USB enclosure or convertor cable it should be quite straightforward to access any 2.5" laptop hard drive removed from its original location.

Win2K should see all the files on the Win98 partition but Win98 would only see the files on a Win2K drive if its partition format was FAT and not NTFS.

Thanks, didn't think it was a problem, just wanted to make sure...
