My friend was recently installing a game (Messiah) on his PC when he recieved an "Error writing to disk." Shortly after, his hard drive completely crashed and now when he boots up, he gets a hard drive read failur. My assumption is that he has damaged the partion on the hard drive. What I'm trying to figure out is what caused it. His computer used to be a 350 Pentium, but we recently bought a Soyo motherboard and a PIII 733 chip, and swapped out the hard drive from the old system to the new one. The motherboard BIOS accepted it without a hitch, and Windows installed it's software without any problems. The system ran fine. He's installed other software and again no problems. He installed the game, and midway it crashed. A virus maybe? He does surf the net a lot, but he always has his virus protection running. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Only thing I can think of is maybe it ran out of disk space, and I'm not sure if that would cause it to completely crash. I just looked up the system requirements at the Messiah (http://www.messiah.com) site, and it requires 500MB disk space. If it ran out of space during the install, it might cause that kind of problems. The site also has a troubleshooting link, you can take a look...

Try booting to a Windows Start Up disk and running fdisk, see if it recognizes the drive at all. You might have to fdisk, format and start all over, but you might be able to save it if fdisk can see the drive.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
