I am building anew system from scratch. I have a new mini-ATX case and a MOB to match. The case is unlike my old case in that it has raised "bumps" that the MOB is supposed to be screwed in to. I have the metal spacers that screw into the bumps. The holes (bumps) match up exactly with my MOB - great huh? Well I screwed the MOB to the spacers & used the cardboard washers on top of the MOB. The problem is after the MOB is mounted in the case using the spacers, it is too high for the MOB I/O panel to match up with the I/O faceplate.

My question is - can I just screw the MOB directly on to the metal raised bumps & eliminate the spacers? If I do that, then everything will line up perfectly. But I'm afraid of screwing the MOB directly on the metal bumps. I want to put the cardboard washers between the MOB & the raised areas but it is very hard to do. Another problem with this installation is...Some of the screws are not holding when screwed directly into the raised bumps.

Any suggestions? I'm anxious to get this sytem up & running soon. I thought this would be the easy part of the installation. I installed the CPU, heatsink/fan & memory with no problem. If someone could help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it. I'm at my wit's end!

Yes, those raised bumps are meant to take the place of the spacers...so you would screw the board directly to them...use a dab of something (I've used tiny amounts---the amount on the end of a toothpick, of Vaseline to hold the cardboard washers in place). The screws that aren't holding may need a larger diameter screw.

Thank you mjc. I wasn't sure about using them in leiu of spacers. I just needed confirmation on that. The vaseline idea is great. I will probably have to get a little larger screw. I hope I won't have any more problems with this build. If I do, I will be back!!! Thank you again!
