I have a HP computer with a Phoenix Bios. I upgraded the CPU on the computer. Now I can't access the CMOS setup. My computer uses F2 to access the CMOS stup. The computer just freezes. I tried clearing the CMOS. That doesn't work. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to bypass or any software that bypasses the setup besides trying to clear? Thanks

When does it freeze? Before you have a chance to enter setup? Sounds like you might have a voltage or other jumper setting wrong. Also might be that the CPU is not compatible with the board. Most Intel CPU's will work with about any board, assuming it supports the CPU family and speed rating, but many AMD's will not, which is one of the main drawbacks with AMD.

Double check all your jumper settings on the board, check the manual and be sure the board supports the particular CPU you put in it.

Also check to be sure the CPU is oriented correctly. The CPU should have one corner lopped off, that corner corresponds to a certain corner of the socket. Make sure it's right. Double and triple check EVERYTHING...

I don't think this is a CMOS issue, I think it's something physically wrong with the CPU installation, or a compatibility issue. Let us know how far it boots also.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
