Hi guys i have a 680i mb, i installed a q6700 today but i realized applications were taking forever to open it was performing worst than my Pentium d 3.2 ghz. So i installed CPUID and and it showed me that my multiplier was set to 6 instead of 10, i also noticed that it was fluctuating time to time showing 6 then showing 10 for 1 or 2 secs. I check the bios the multiplier was at 10. So am a bit confused and to why its at 6. Can anyone help me out?

The system is using CPU throttling. Go into power options and make sure it is set to "always on" if using XP. If using vista r-click "computer icon" - "properties" - "performance" in the lower left corner - "adjust power settings" on the left. Make sure you set it to "high performance".
CPU throttling is good if you use the battery on a laptop, but I hate it on desktops. I want 100% all the time. :p

Then you need to look in the BIOS for those types of options. If you need help finding them post back with your motherboards make and model and I will see if I can help locate them.
Also if you have any motherboard utilities installed make sure they are set to high performance if applicable.

Who is the manufacturer? EVGA, Asus, MSI?? And what particular model is it?
For instance, this is an EVGA 680i board complete make and model --- EVGA 122-CK-NF68-T1

In 'Advanced Chipset Features' go into 'CPU configuration', and disable both 'CPU Thermal control' and 'C1E Enhanced Halt state'.
That should take care of your problems. :)
