I have run into a strange problem on my Dell Desktop:

I keep getting right clicks taking place when I don't want it to. For Example: If I was on My Desktop, the Rclick takes place bringing up the Display Properties window. This is very annoying and almost sounds like a joke but it isn't. This doesn't happen on my laptop and so I exchanged the mouse ----but it still takes place on the Dell Desktop.

Dell Dimension 2400 with XP Home SP2 with current Windows Updates.

I have Googled but didn't come up with anything. Anyone have any idea on this problem. This has been going on for quite some time.

Thanks.

I'd guess something has messed with your PC's registry settings.

Do you have any means to restore to a time before the problem was introduced...
Either just the registry alone, or even better the whole C: partition contents?

I've changed Mouse to PS/2 after uninstalling the USB and I think that the mouse is working okay now.

I guess time will tell.

Thanks for reply.

No, I spoke too soon ----- still have the problem on PS/2.

So, I will just Switch Primary and Secondary on the mouse and use it that way. I'll pretend I'm left handed.

Be for warned
Next it may start high lighting your text as you type

I have seen this before.
But it was always with the touch pad on dell laptops

It highlighted and then deleted a large part of a paper in Word.
Never did find a solution. The laptop wash replaced

Always do an anti-virus check =)

Yes, I've done virus and spyware checks. Nothing showed up on Antivir check or Spybot check. Ad_Aware came up with 83 privacy objects (tracking cookies) which I have deleted. No, change with mouse problem.
I just continue to use the mouse with R & L clicks switched and pretend I'm left handed. The machine continues to work fine that way.
