I have a hp compaq nx9000 laptop and whenever i wish to type something like in word, address bar of internet explorer(anywhere something can be typed),some symbol starts apearing
there and even if i press the backspace key it resurfaces.Earlier it used
to be this (""""""""""")and now it is the 'equal to' sign.I couldn't type' equal to'
sign now because that button is not working.Such behavior though doesn't
happen continuously. When such thing happens and on right clicking on the
desktop a particular sound also appears.Sometimes the computer also beeps
before the OS choice menu appears(i have a PHOENIX bios). The computer is
otherwise functioning properly.

Some background as to how this came to be might be usefull.
Did this start happening from the very begining or have you had this notebook for awhile and it just started happening?
Try to remember if you did anything that might be causing this to happen. Did you or anyone else spill any liquids?

i have been experiencing this problem since last two weeks.the computer
beeped before the OS choice menu and then it started happening.if you start
typing anywhere say in the address bar and keep any key pressed for a while
say 'z' key and then right click on the desktop, you will get a feel of what
is happening to my computer.there was no spillage of liquids.i must mention again
that the computer is
otherwise functioning properly.

OK,
Try an external keyboard and see if this continues.
If not then you can be almost sure that it't the notebook keyboard and you may have to bring it in to have the keyboard replaced.
If this continues with an external keyboard then you have a more serious issue on your hands.

I think that even if i connect an external keyboard the notebook keyboard
will still keep working because as far as i know it can't be disabled in the control panel. So even then ,i still won't be able to know that it is the culprit or not.
What's your opinion?

Not so with my laptop. The internal gets automatically disabled.

Is it still causing you problems? Assuming you have anti-virus software installed, you might want to check to make sure your laptop doesn't have a flu.
