Every once in a while, on booting, my computer will have a 3 second beep, 5 seconds of silence, 3 second beep, etc. The motherboard is an Asus P5N32-E SLI. The manual has no beep code guide, but I found through a bit of googling that this typically means bad memory (although I could be wrong, if you can find out whether I was right, that would be great).

So I need to test my RAM. I found out that Vista already has a Memory Diagnostics Tool installed. Upon booting, it tests the memory. Is this decent enough to test for RAM errors? If not, can someone reccomend a better one? Cheap is good, free is much better.

Memtest is free and runs outside of Windows.

http://www.memtest.org/

Grab the CD ISO and create a bootable CD from that and set the optical drive to the first boot device and test away...

I did this once, and for some reason it would ask me to press any key to boot from the CD drive, and I pressed a key, and it just went straight to windows.

But I'll try again.

Just ran windows memory diagnostic, didn't say anything about the RAM.

So I'll run Memtest, but this is getting really weird. Can anyone help me out?

Without knowing the results of Memtest...there isn't much to be done, unless you have RAM to swap out with.
