I have a 2 year old Packard Bell that has had a buzzing/vibration lately. I checked the processor and power supply fans, and they are quiet. I assume then that it is the hard drive, and for 2 days was giving many different blue screes error codes and crashing. I tried rebooting from the crash restore CD a number of times, but it keeps failing, usually with an error, "can't find keyboard, turn off your computer now". It won't restart in safe mode either. Does this mean my hard drive has died, and if so, are they easy to replace at home (with reasonable skills)? I ran the check hard drive troubleshoot and it came up okay.

Don't know about the buzzing, hard to say without hearing it.

Try a different keyboard, maybe borrow one from a friend. If that doesn't do it check into replacing the CMOS battery.

If you ever do get it up and running again, run a virus scanner, scandisk and defrag the hard drive, and you might have to fix the registry. If this is a win98 machine it's no problem, just boot to the command prompt and type

scanreg /fix If that doesn't do it try

scanreg /restore and replace it with a backup copy that was made before the problem started.

If it's a win95 machine you'll have to rename the registry files, a bit more difficult, but can be done. We'll get into that if it's necessary.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
