I'm shopping around for a new desktop for gaming purposes. I've found two suitable machines, both at the same price. I'm not sure which I should go with:

This is what I'm leaning towards. The only thing I see bad about it is I would rather have an Intel processor.

This one has the Intel processor, but it has 2 gigs less memory and the video card is a GeForce 8600 GT instead of a 9600. It also has a 700 watt power supply, the 1st link has 580. So, I'm not too sure what the differences in the power supply means for my system's performance.

My main purpose for upgrading my PC is for better game performance, and either of these would do, really. I've heard great things about the Intel dual-core processor, so I'm really hesitant to choose AMD over it even though they are both probably more than enough to run my games. What do you guys think between these two? Thanks for the input.

the first one would give the best performance in gaming but still not ideal

would you be susceptible to building your own?

whats your budget?

As George said, budget is important. The good thing in building your own PC is that you can make sure to get high quality parts, as opposed to a pre-build system that in most cases uses cheap parts.

Also, most pre-built PCs come with a motherboard that won't let you upgrade very well (for instance, Dell BIOS won't let you over-clock, and you can't upgrade very much)

You can build a PC for probably cheaper, and even have better parts.

Yeah for that much, you could definitely build a much better PC. Or even have someone else build it for you.
