Hello,
Got a problem with my sound card i think. I was listening to some music on my computer (mp3's). Then I went to do my homework and came back later to play more music. Then, however, it wouldn't play anything. I bought new speakers, and this didn't help. What else could I do? I can't even determine what brand sound card I have, because it's on the motherboard and I have no idea how to. Anyone have ideas?
Thanks,
Victor

ok i need to know a couple of things first does it still play cds? have you ever opened your computer? to look inside see if the card is seated properly. over the course of time cards have been known to become a little loose.... how old is your computer? or how new? and do you have a volume icon in your system tray if so is it muted. i know im running the risk of insulting your intelligence here but alot of times the problem usually is associated with the obvious. so it's recommended that you check the obvious before you go diving into a system or replace any parts....... at least this is what i would do http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hello,
Yes, it can still play cd's but I have to have my headphones in the front. The systray icon is at high volume. The sound card is supposedly fixed on my motherboard (i hate those things). I don't know what brand my mobo is though. my computer is about 2 years old, a 350 mhz amd k6-2..anyway, thanks a lot,
victor

Double click the speaker icon and open the main volume controls, see if the CD volume is turned down there. Check all the other output volumes as well.
Since the problem also occurs with CD's, I don't think it would be related to the mp3 player you're using. Could be a possibility though...
Start\Settings\Control Panel\System\Device Manager click the plus (+) beside Sound, video and game controllers and you should see what sound card it has. Download and install updated drivers, and check to see if it has any yellow splats beside the sound card before you do.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?
