Everytime I plug my external 500 GB simpletech hard dive my computer freeze. When I boot xp it stops the loading bar after 20 secs. Its has if trying to download something and it can't. If I plug it in after I log in it freezes as well. I'm only using 2 out 6 of my usb drives. I have an 800 watt power supply and I have all my updates. 3.00 GHZ 1.5 GB of RAM , Xp pro. It is not a brand name pc.


Why is my external freezing my computer ?:mad: :o I have important documents on it. My laptop runs the hard drive fine. I was thinking maybe getting a usb hub to power my usb. I tried checking the device manager there noting wrong there.


Any ideas. I really need this to work on my desktop asap. :mad: :mad: :mad:

It sounds like hardware beginning to fail or that is getting inadequate power (presumably it is externally supplied with power). If the drive is a 3.5" drive I would try it attached internally to exclude possible problems with the enclosure itself and to better attempt recovery/access of your documents.
