I'm trying to install a Lexmark E120 USB printer on japanese windows 98. I downloaded the (win98 version) installation program from the manufacturers website and everything goes alright until the installation program asks for usbprint.sys file which I can't find anywhere. Also, the windows installation program doesn't offer an USB interface during the installation (it only offers LPT and COM ports).
In device manager, my USB printer shows with a yellow exclamation mark. Can some of you point me to the right direction with this issue? I'm an old school guy, and this newfangled USB stuff is all new to me (heck, I'm still using win98 and don't plan on upgrading to XP anytime soon). Any help would be much appreciated.

If the printer had a CD-ROM disk it would help because Microsoft often asks the manufacturer sites to remove support files and programs when an OS runs out of support.

Looks like Driverguide dot com has drivers for that printer with Windows 98 at their site.
I hope this link (http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=893837) helps.
Sign up, that site is worth every penny (free). :)

Everything looked fine for the moment, but when win98 asked me for the port onto which the printer is connected, I was only offered COM1, COM2, LPT1 and FILE. No USB whatsoever. I tried everything I could think of, tried different drivers (some even scavenged from XP), reinstalled drivers a billion times but to no avail. I would hate having to upgrade to XP because it doesn't recognize my SB16 ISA sound card and a second ethernet card. Can you help me out here? Anybody? :(

Kiosk,
Does it have an Ethernet port on the printer?
If you have one, you can connect using TCP/IP, using either LPR or RAW ports, but may need a utility from the supplied disks to make an LPR port. The utility may called P2P or some other name that Lexmark chose.

Looks like all of the drivers (http://downloads.lexmark.com/perl/downloads/downloads.cgi#) are still available at the Lexmark site including User Manuals (http://www.lexmark.com/publications/pdfs/2007/e120/en.html).
And the user reviews at Amazon dot com are quite favorable including using it on home networks with wireless routers.

My chipset is an oldie but goodie: I440BX. Other USB devices function normally when connected to the USB hub.
USB Devices May Not Work in Windows 98 Second Edition (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/240075).
USB works just fine with, say, MP3 players and memory sticks, although I have to install drivers for each one of them.
Unfortunately the printer doesn't come with an ethernet port. Looks like I'll have to build a second, say, pentium 2 clunker with XP just so I could print from it.
Something like this...

Gives you a network printer without the need to build an additional machine to hook it up to (or if your printer isn't network ready).
One of the advantages of this is that if you have a router, this connects to the router and all the machines on the network can print to the printer, without the need of any specific computer on the network being turned on.
