Hi guys,

Lately my display would black out after all the process of windows loading (will come up to 'loading your personal settings' and then bang, screen turns black). I can see that the hard disk is working, but only display goes away. My screen is fine too, got it checked with another pc. It used to boot when i tried the "safe mode" and with "networking" for a while, but now that has stopped too. I am guessing that my display card is gone. I removed the card and put it back, now i realise the fan doesn't run. So i think the card is dead.

Now, is there anyway I can fix this card or check if that is what is faulty? Will buying a new graphic card solve this issue? Its an old pc and I dont want 2 invest much in it, so just trying 2 do the least n get the pc running.

Thanks a lot for any help.

Cheers,

Vijay.

Can you try the card in another PC? I don't think a failed graphics card is easily repaired and not without great expense.

This is an indication that the card is dead.

If it is the card, then this will solve the issue.

There is no way to check the card for fault, maybe try placing the card on another PC to see if it works.

So, you are saying that when you turn on your computer, you do get the initial boot screens and the login box, but once you log in instead of Windows you get a black screen?

Hi mjc,

Yes, I get the initial boot screens, login box and then the screen turns black. I don't know anyone who has a p3, so not sure if i can get the card tested. Also as i said, i don't really wanna invest money in buying a new graphic card for this pc, if its doubtful that the pc will work. But if there is no way out, i guess i will have to buy 1 or probably dump this pc and get a new 1 :-). Thanks for all the feedback guys, really appreciate it.

Double check to make sure that the card is seated securely in it's slot.

My first instinct is that Windows is working just fine. Except for the fact that it's confused about its standard output. ;)

But...

I don't know anyone who has a p3If you mean "p3" as in Intel Pentium III processor  then I'd suggest you let it go. Not worth dumping any more time or money into a system that old. You can't even find replacement parts for systems that old anymore without going to surplus stores or eBay. You're better off scheming for a new system.
